Hearing aid keeps disconnecting? Try these fixes in order

Quick answer: Restart in this order: Bluetooth off and on, then the hearing aids, then the phone. If that doesn’t fix it, update the phone and app, then forget the hearing aids and pair again. These are the steps Apple, Phonak and Oticon recommend.

Fix it step by step

  1. Make sure your hearing aids are charged (or have fresh batteries).
  2. Turn Bluetooth off and back on.
  3. Restart your hearing aids (charger in/out, or open/close the battery door).
  4. Restart your phone.
  5. Update your phone’s software and your hearing aid app.
  6. Make sure the hearing aids aren’t paired to a different phone or tablet nearby.
  7. Still dropping? Forget the hearing aids (iPhone: Settings › Accessibility › Hearing Devices › your device › Forget this device; Android: remove every entry for them in Bluetooth settings), then pair again using your brand guide.
  8. Ask your provider about a firmware update.

Common questions

Why do my hearing aids keep disconnecting from my phone?

Common causes are low battery, a phone or app update, the hearing aids being paired to another device, or a stale Bluetooth pairing. A clean re-pair often fixes it.

Will forgetting my hearing aids erase my settings?

Forgetting removes the Bluetooth pairing on your phone. Your provider's hearing settings live in the hearing aids. Ask your provider if unsure.

Should I reinstall the app?

Phonak recommends uninstalling and reinstalling myPhonak if a reset and re-pair don't work.
